Laver
- Laver is a type of seaweed raised in the seas of Japan, China and South Korea over the winter. Laver harvested from the sea is minced and dried to form sheets which are grilled. They are mainly used in sushi and rice balls. This traditional Japanese food has been adored by many people for a long time for its great taste and aroma.

Japanese Super Food
- One sheet of laver contains loads of nutrients such as protein, fiber and vitamins.
In addition to nutrients, there are a lot of amino acids which are the base for the umami flavor. This natural food includes glutamic acid, inosinic acid and guanylic acid which are said to not exist in other foods except for laver.
Laver is a great tasting and nutritious Japanese super food representative of Japan.

The History of Sakai Nori
- The Shonaigawa River and Nikkogawa River in the east along with the Nabetagawa River and Kisogawa River in the west lead to the seas of Tobishima where we were founded. This area was once a prosperous fishing grounds full of laver. In 1920, Suekichi Sakai started Sakai Nori offering dried laver produced in the area.
Around 100 years later, our laver currently being produced in the Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay is being used at sushi restaurants in 3 prefectures of the Tokai Area (Aichi, Gifu and Mie).
